人権としての教育の制度的表現である「教育の平等」論が内在する相剋を問うことを研究テーマとする。例えば、なぜ「全国的な教育の機会均等と教育水準の維持向上」の確保(肯定的契機)が、教育の国家統制(否定的契機)を進める論理(新教育基本法第 16条〈教育行政〉)を導きうるのか?こうした教育と政治をめぐる問いに、歴史的アプローチで取り組んでいる。
