  • 歴史社会学の視点から、近代日本の学校教育を対象として、各地に残る学校史料を収集、かつ、聞き取り調査をしつつ、研究を進めている。とりわけ、①儀式唱歌が人びとにもたらした「記憶」の意味、②「個性調査簿」を中心とする「個性」をめぐるポリティクス、③「小学1年生」という存在の成立と変容に見る「学校的社会化」と「社会の学校化」について考察することを課題としている。音楽科教育への実践的な関心からは、小学校音楽科の指導法を研究している。

      We have been studying the “school socialization”, which is our original concept for many years. This concept means the process where infants grow up to be elementary school students in modern Japanese society, since Meiji era. In this study, we especially focus on how the institutionalized way of understanding children has been developed from the point of social constructionism, which we regard children as not real existence but socially constructed in the process of teachers’ daily practice of teaching and evaluating them.
      Our research project consists of three empirical studies. We have video-taped and analyzed teacher-students interaction in everyday school life. We also collected historical school documents of pre 2th world war periods such as academic and other personal records from elementary schools. The last thing we focused on is the negative aspect of understanding children. We approached a case of bullying suicide and analyzed this case.

      We conceptualized the process of school socialization where children as small existence were transformed into ‘Jido’(=pupil). Historically unique process of school socialization in Japan was clarified by using two research methods, interaction analysis of visual data and sociological analysis of historical documents.       The relationship between adults (teachers) and children (students) in school is not symmetrical. Teachers have power to define what happens there. There are some specific norms named "Regard to child" and these norms constitute educational phenomena. While examining the interaction which took place in classrooms, we studied current discourses on education and historical documents of school from the perspectives of social constructionism and ethnomethodology.

      The subjects of this collaborative research for three years have been regarding "emotions" ; (1)development/socialization, (2)cultural norm, (3) human relations (from the view point of hermenutics), (4) education of children's feelings(history of music education). For the research terms, we have developed the four subjects to follows; (a) theoretical study on emotions, (b)children's crying in interaction, (c)memories and tears, (d)gender and tears. As the result, we release the report. The chapter division is as follows.
