本研究では、列島社会の山里とその生業が多様な展開を持っていた点を重視し、近世において特徴をもった以下の4地域を選定しているＡ焼畑耕作など多様な生業から「林業地帯」へと変貌した阿波・木頭地域（担当：研究代表者・町田哲）、Ｂ巨大都市江戸への薪炭供給地であった房総・養老川流域（研究分担者・後藤雅知）、Ｃ列島各地への有数な材木供給地であった南信濃・天竜川中流域（同・羽田真也）、Ｄ藩の専売制の中で、西日本有数の紙生産地となった周防・山代地域（同・森下徹）である。
2年めにあたる本年度は、まず各地域の一次史料を調査・分析し、その特質を内在的に解明することに注力した。Ａ地域の木頭村湯浅家文書の目録作成を進め、Ｂ地域では大多喜町小内区有文書（580点）の現状記録・目録作成調査を完了した。Ｃ地域では座光寺村庄屋古瀬今村家文書（約4000点）の現状記録調査を継続した。今後の研究の基礎となる重要な歴史資料を整理・保存できた意義は大きい。
また、研究会（オンライン）を5回実施し、各地域での調査研究の成果を共有した。町田はＡ地域の産物がいかに他地域に産出したのかを検討し、その成果を論文として発表した。後藤はＢ地域において内部が二分された村請制村を取り上げ、集落・家の共同性と対抗関係を検討した。羽田はＣ地域における古島敏雄氏の入会権の類型について再検討を行い、用益秩序の構造を解明した。森下はＤ周防の石炭山の生産・流通構造とその変化を明らかにした。
なお、当初予定していたメンバー相互の調査レベルでの交流や、地元での「現地報告会」「古文書展」等の対面実施は、COVID-19感染拡大により不可能となったが、研究会には新たに若手・中堅研究者の参加を得た。
以上のように本年度は、各地域において基礎的な調査研究を進め、着実な成果をあげると同時に、研究組織および内容について深化する手がかりを得ることができた。

前年度に引き続き、前科研（2016-2018年度科学研究費助成金・基盤研究B「研究者アーカイヴズの構築と人文学の再生」、研究代表者：荒野泰典）を継承し、調査・研究活動を行った。研究実績として以下の点を挙げることができる。
１、啓静文庫資料のうち書籍類として分類され、倉庫に預けておいた分を阿智村清内路振興室に寄贈することができた。振興室での整理作業は継続している。
２、啓静文庫の研究史料について、常時閲覧できるように、これまで遠隔地に保管しておいたものについても、池袋の倉庫に一括して保管することとした。その移転作業が終わり、本格的に史料研究に取り組む体制を整えることができた。
３、研究面では、ワークショップをオンラインで開催し、荒野泰典『鎖国を見直す』岩波現代文庫、2019年の書評会を実施した。18名の参加を得て、近世国際関係史の現状を課題について議論できた。また史料調査にあわせて行う研究報告会はオンラインでの報告会も含めて4回開催され、長岡区有文書や啓静文庫史料のうち、高等師範学校関係に関わる報告など、5つの研究報告が行われた。
４、史料調査。20年度はコロナウイルス感染拡大の影響で、啓静文庫調査は3回にとどまり、目録作成はほぼ進展しなかった。一方、長野県上伊那郡箕輪町の山口啓二・永原慶二らの農村調査関連史跡と現地の長岡区有文書調査については、繰り越した経費を用いて、21年11月15・16日に実施した。調査先は箕輪町の長岡区公民館で、参加者４名であった。目録作成と写真撮影を行った。

This project aimed to construct an archives of documents which two historical science researchers, Yamaguchi Keiji and Murata Shizuko, had left. We got the following results;
First, their documents were put in order, and about 80 percent of the whole were made a list by that. It became obvious that this archives is the basic documents about their historical science studies and social movement. And it could be confirmed that the archives includes documents about Yamaguchi's grandfather Saito Agu, his father Yamaguchi Seiji, and the Yamaguchi-Murata family. Second, from the knowledge of documents research, it was possible to do reinvestigation in the area Yamaguchi investigated formerly and to research on documents of First High School (present University of Tokyo) related to Saito Agu and Yamaguchi Seiji. Third, it was possible to pick research subjects out from the archives and deepen argument for several times workshop.

This study uses field research in the Obitsugawa river basin in Chiba prefecture and an examination of relevant literature to clarify village history from early modern times to the present day, focusing on the relationship between livelihood and the natural environment. The study also empirically identifies specific historical characteristics and trends in the utilization of natural resources within the rural landscape. Regional rural communities have possessed the technology and knowledge for sustainable utilization of these natural resources. This has been characterized by the emergence of ongoing and sustainable technologies that exist only within regional communities, where the natural environment has been developed into place for livelihood such as paddy fields and cultivated land. This is termed “appropriate technology and knowledge,” and is thought to be an important factor in considering future sustainable utilization of natural resources.

Taking early modern Osaka as its focus, this research elucidated the composite structure formed by the city's diverse social groups from the perspective of law and society. In addition, it sought to understgand that structure by comparing the case of Osaka with that of other traditional cities inside and outside of Japan. First, we compiled and surveyed a range of relevant legal sources, and produced two documentary collections, one containing proclamations issued by the Osaka City Governor in the seventeenth century and the other containing official proclamations issued by the Osaka Prefectural Government during the early Meiji period. Furthermore, we held a series of workshops and international symposia during which we deepened our empirical analysis of specific case studies, developed our methodology, and actively engaged with foreign researchers. Lastly, we published the results of our research in an anthology of essays.

I took up Izu area and northern Osaka area at the agar and gelatin production place, and this study examined production structure of agar and gelatin in Tokugawa Era. The purchase of the agar in Izu was monopolized by fishing ground usage called urauke, and raw materials and a price of the agar that it was rose because Kishu feudal clan intervened there. Because the remarkable rise of the agar price suppresses the management of the agar production person companion, and each feudal clan strengthened a monopoly system of the agar again, the opposition between the villages of the straight production center and the conflict between the farmers in the village occurred.

近世地付漁場の重層的利用形態に関する基礎的研究

近世における漁場利用の形態は、大きく分けて内水面漁業と沿岸漁業とに大別され、かつ沿岸漁業は地付漁業と沖漁業とに二分されると考えられる。本研究はこのうち地付漁場における漁業構造を分析するものである。とくに近世における地付漁場の利用形態、およびその特質を明らかにするために、本研究では特定の品目に限定して、その漁獲過程・加工・流通構造を明らかにすることとし、昨年度に引き続き、寒天の原料となる心太(トコロテン)草の生産に関わる史料を収集するとともに、大坂周辺で寒天に加工・販売される局面に関わる史料も収集した。寒天は伏見で食べ残した心太が偶然凍結・融解したことから発見されたと言われ、18世紀後期には中国への輸出品として大坂北部の北摂地域の山間村落で盛んに生産された。やがて生産過剰から文化年間には大坂尼崎又右衛門の一手取締のもと、原料の集荷・販売量の調整について制約を受けるようになるが、そのもとで寒天製造人たちは竃数を株化して固定し、仲間組合を結成することで集団の利益保全を図った。そのため寒天生産地は北摂地域から容易には広がらなかったが、天保年間になると、有栖川宮御用を掲げたり、あるいは紀州藩の寒天国産化計画に組み込まれることによって、丹波の寒天製造人が原料の天草を独自に入手するルートを開拓し、急成長を遂げた。とくに紀州藩は、寒天製造に必要な原藻=心太草を自藩領のみで調達できず、良質な草を求めて東伊豆の村々で心太草集荷権の請負に参入するようになり、各村々で慣行として行われていた集荷権の村請状態を大きく動揺させることになった。浦の請負値段や原藻価格の急騰にはこうした背景があったのである。

This project is the research on how the localism will be formed, taking the case of Shimoina region in Shinano-no-kuni, Nagano prefecture, in early modern Japan. It was carried out according three aspects as follows ; each indicated the character of this region.
1.The basic social structure ; (1)the relationship between Oyakata and Hikan which involved the subordination in addition to agricultural management. (2)the community including discriminated people ; entertainers so-called Sasara, Kasanomono and so on in this region. (3)The logistics structure ordered by trading in Iida castle town and on the periphery of Iida.
2.The relationship between landowner and tenant farmer ; (1)the customs for tenant farmer how to pay rent and how much rent to pay. (2)Whether tenant farmers had the attachment for farming or not.
3.The formation of specialty ; Kureki wood which was paid for tax instead of rice or money because a lot of Kureki was produced around this area.
As the result of these researches we found the important facts as follows ;
Point 1 : (1)The relationship between Oyakata and Hikan was provided rather by that of samurai, so-called Shujyuu-Kankei, which was formed while they settled and cultivated these areas in medieval period. So we organized old documents, NAKAYAMA-Ke Monjyo to verify this fact. (2)We found that Hyakushou discriminated new-comer as Sasara to have him do what they did not want to do like guard against thieves.
Point 2 : We have not been able to find old documents to verify the substance of Kariwake-Kosaku ; the characteristic custom to pay rent. But we continue investigating old documents and verifying the direction of tenant farmers by analysis of Morimoto-Ke Monjyo.
Point 3 : We found that we were able to elucidate the system of laborer who cut down Kureki by the analysis of CHIBA-Ke Mojyo, so we organized them and continue to have them photographed.

近世干鰯生産地帯の社会構造に関する研究

近世における漁業社会構造の特質を検討するために、本研究では房総地域のなかでも、特に南岸から東上総沿岸地域を取り上げて、干鰯生産を中心とした、さまざまな漁場利用が重層する社会のありようを分析した。特に本年度は、昨年課題とした浦請負人の生業のありよう、複層的な漁場利用をめぐる漁民と浦請負人との矛盾関係について検討した。こうした検討には、干鰯生産の側面だけではなく、その他の地付漁場における多様な漁業構造を取り上げる必要があるため、安房〜東上総南岸地域において特徴ある漁業、心太草と生鮑生産を事例として検討した。
その結果、(1)網元兼浦請負人は、近世後期に漁業経営を多角化し、漁業生産への利益吸着を強めたが、特に各浦の鮑漁業権を確保した浦請負人は、惣百姓との対立を深め、村方騒動は頻発したこと、(2)その背景には、村百姓の多くが鮑漁場で地海士として働くという実態、すなわち鮑漁場という地付漁場が惣百姓の再生産に不可欠の存在であったことが挙げられる、(3)心太草の採取も近世後期に盛んとなったが、その村内での担い手は老人・女性・子供などが主であり、特に村内の下層百姓にとって重要な生業となったので、集荷する江戸問屋との対立は深刻化したこと、などが明らかとなった。
今後はこうした地付漁場の構造的特質に関する検討をさらに深めるとともに、干鰯生産の構造を含めた漁場利用の立体的な構造を総体として把握していく作業が必要となろう。
