Research Theme*
ポストモダンを中心とした、第二次世界大戦後の現代アメリカ文学ならびに批評理論を研究している。近年では特に、Ishmael Reedを中心としたアフリカ系アメリカ小説、Robert Coover, Donald Barthelmeを中心としたポストモダン小説を研究の主題に据えてきた。理論においては、アイロニー詩学を主軸とした物語学に関心をもち、現在は特にポストモダンのパロディと、現代アメリカ文学におけるパロディ・ナラティヴの分析に取り組んでいる。

Dr. Michael D. H. Yates is Associate Professor of British and American literature at the College of Arts, Rikkyo University. He teaches courses in contemporary American literature, fiction writing, narrative theory, and academic composition. He has published journal articles and book chapters on graphic narrative, visual literacy, narrative irony, as well as papers on Marcel Duchamp, Joseph Cornell, Robert Coover, and Donald Barthelme. Dr. Yates has also recently co-edited (with Dr. Ana Penjak, University of Split, Croatia) a volume entitled, The Practice of Narrative: Storytelling in a Global Context (Oxford: IDP, 2016).
