    Laser-produced plasma is a promising compact light source applicable in a broad range of wavelengths. We performed a spectroscopic analysis and plasma characterization of the laser-produced plasma of Al, Fe, Cu, and Inconel alloy (Ni/Cr/Fe) to explore their potential applications in the far-ultraviolet (FUV) region where these methods are yet widely exploited. The emission spectrum from each target exhibited a characteristic spectral profile over the wavelength range from 120 to 250 nm. These results were well reproduced by spectral simulations, providing detailed information on the plasma. We also developed a dedicated parabolic mirror that successfully collimated the plasma radiation into beam with an intensity enhanced by a factor of ∼35. Our study demonstrated the generation of collimated FUV radiation with an intensity of a 107 photons/pulse/1% bandwidth as a potent laboratory-size light source for various applications.

    The purpose of this study is to explore the nanoscale superfluidity using helium droplets as a quantum droplet beam. We found that the nanoscale molecular hydrogen clusters shows the microscopic superfluid properties probed by spectroscopy of embedded molecules inside. Further studies which were performed to characterize the properties of the droplet beam showed that molecular ions produced in the droplets were found in metastable states, which are not the lowest energy states observed in the isolated gas phase.

    We have established a new high-resolution mass spectrometry method for low-energy molecules using an array of superconducting transition-edge-sensor (TES) microcalorimeters as a superconducting "molecular" detector. The TES detector was successfully operated without thermal radiation windows in front of the superconducting sensors by introducing cylindrical thermal radiation shields and meshes cooled by a GM refrigerator. This enabled the world's first successful direct detection of neutral molecules and their mass measurement by a TES detector. Incorporating this system into a low-temperature electrostatic ion storage ring enables unparalleled atomic and molecular collision experiments. The merging collision experiments of stored ions and neutral molecules using the simultaneously developed neutral beam source are expected to make a great leap forward in the study of ion-molecule reactions in the low-temperature and dilute space environment.

    We focused on the photoisomerization process driven by ultraviolet light in the vicinity of high-temperature astronomical objects. We aimed to clarify the mechanism that determines the abundance and ratio of molecular isomers in the interstellar space. To investigate the reaction dynamics experimentally, we have developed deep ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 100-200 nm using a laser-plasma light source, as well as a technique for separating isomers of molecular ions using ion mobility analysis. We succeeded in obtaining the deep ultraviolet light at a newly developed beamline and proceeded with spectral analysis using theoretical calculation by the atomic structure calculation code FAC. Regarding isomer separation, we attained the stable transfer of molecular ions into the analyzing tube used molecular ions produced at an electron-impact or an electrospray ion source.

    The purpose of this study is to reproduce the low-energy ion-neutral collision process in the interstellar space in the cryogenic ion storage ring RICE and to experimentally investigate the reaction cross-section and branching ratio depending on the collision velocity and quantum state. We stored a molecular ion beam in the RICE and diagnosed their time evolution of internal state by laser spectroscopy. Besides, the newly developed optical cavity increased the neutralization efficiency of the negative ion beam by ten times. We have completed most of the experimental developments, are ready to carry out the ion-neutral merged-beam experiment.

    Using a cryogenic electrostatic ion storage ring device, it has become possible to accumulate atomic and molecular ions for a long period of 1000 seconds or more under an environment of extremely low temperature and high vacuum. By introducing a tunable UV laser to accumulated isolated molecular ions, we observed the detailed rotational and rotational spectra of them, which enabled us to explore cooling dynamics over a long period of time. We also succeeded in generating fast pulsed beams of large molecular and cluster ions for their accumulation, and neutral particles for collisions with accumulated ions.

    An in-ring predissociation spectroscopy of N2O+ molecular ions, A2Σ+←X2Π2/3 (000)-(200), has been carried out in the RIKEN Cryogenic Electrostatic ring (RICE). With the use of a dedicated detection system, rotational spectra of N2O+ were observed at different storage periods of from 250 microseconds to about 1 second. The real-time observation of rotational population distribution was successfully attained, and the change of rotational temperature was measured by comparing the experimental result to numerical simulations using the pgopher code.

    A new experimental development for low-energy ion-neutral reaction has been carried out. The research aims to study the ion-neutral reaction dynamics in upper atmosphere and interstellar spaces. The low-energy collision experiment will be realized by merging a molecular ion beam and neutral beam in a cryogenic ion storage ring RICE at RIKEN. The following apparatus/technique has been developed; 1. generation and transport of negative ion beam, 2. neutralization of the negative ion beam, and 3. injection and storage of moleclar ion beam in RICE. Before the final year, the project was finished and reconstructed to be another KAKENHI project.

    本研究では,低温原子分子反応の実験的観測を通した宇宙の分子進化過程の解明,及び超低エネルギー衝突における量子的な反応ダイナミクスの解明を目指して『高速中性粒子ビーム源』の開発を行っている.具体的には,一価の負イオンビームに対してレーザーを照射して光電子脱離を誘起し,中性粒子ビームを生成する計画を進行中である.
    平成23年度は研究計画の第2年目(最終年)となる予定であったが,本研究は4月27日をもって科学研究費補助金-若手研究(B)へ採択され,より発展した研究計画として引き継がれることとなった.本年度はセシウムスパッターイオン源から引き出した負イオンビームの輸送軌道シミュレーションを行うとともに,実際のイオンビームに光脱離用レーザー(Nd:YAGレーザー,波長532nm)を照射して中性ビームを生成し,ビームプロファイルの測定・最適化等を行う計画となっている.現在まで,軌道シミュレーション,及び負イオンビーム源,Nd:YAGレーザーの調整が終了しており,中性ビーム生成に向けた準備がほぼ整った状態である.このような基盤技術,設備の構築により,極低温領域における原子分子衝突実験の実現へ大きく前進した.

    シリコン結晶などの固体の中では原子が規則的に並んでおり、結晶内には空間的な周期霞場が形成されている.このような結晶標的に入射された高速のイオンは,規則的に並んだ原子面を横切ることで周期的な振動電磁場を感じ,光励起と同様に,イオンの内部状態は共鳴的に励起される(コヒーレント共鳴励起:RCE).本研究は3次元コヒーレント共鳴励起による量子制御ダイナミクスの解明,および原子分光,寿命測定への応用を目標として掲げている.
    第2年度となる平成22年度は,新たなテクニックとなったコンボイ電子の観測を主柱としてこれまでの成果をより発展させることを目的とし,放医研のHIMACで60時間×4回の加速器実験を行なった.さらに,本研究の将来展望として見通していた,結晶場によるウランの精密分光に向けたテスト実験をドイツ,GSI(重イオン研究所)にて開始した.詳細は以下のとおりである.
    [1]オージェ電子の観測(放医研HIMAC,平成21年4月,7月)
    RCEによってAr16+イオンの二重励起状態を生成し,前方に放出される電子の運動量スペクトルを観測したところ,コンボイ電子の両側に2つのサブピークが観測された.これはそれぞれ前方,後方に2.3keVで放出されたオージェ電子とアサインでき,二重励起の生成を実験的に確証した.
    [2]アラインされたイオンのコンプトンプロファイルの観測(放医研HIMAC,平成21年9月,12月)
    RCEにおける偏光制御テクニック(Y.Nakano et al., Phys.Rev, Lett.102, 085502(2009).)を利用し,進行方向にアラインされたイオンから放出されるコンボイ電子の測定を試みた.理論で予測されている逆カスプ型の電子運動量スペクトルを実際に観測するために,50keV電子を検出するアバランシェ・フォトダイオード(APD)を利用したセットアップを新たに開発した.現在データを解析するとともに,ハンガリーの理論グループのシミュレーションと合わせた考察を行なっている.
    [3]ウランの精密分光(ドイツGSI,平成21年9月)
    最も重い安定元素であるウラン(原子番号92)の精密分光を目指し,ドイツ・GSIに新たな実験装置を立ち上げた.195MeV/uのLi様U^<89>イオンにおいて,1s^22s→1s^22p_<3/2>遷移のRCEを観測することに成功し,最新の結晶分光器と同等の分解能を出せることを実証した.今後,蓄積リングを利用した電子冷却等を活用することで更に精度が向上すると考えられ,次期加速器計画FAIRにおいても優れた成果が期待される.
