Research Theme*

  • １８世紀という「古い？」時代のフランス文学、思想、社会について研究している。しかし当然であるが、関心の中心はどんどん移動している。授業ではルソー、マリヴォー、モンテスキュー、ディドロ、サドなどを取りあげることが多いが、現在は音楽（舞台芸術）と政治の関係について考えている。

      令和元年も、平成30年度に引き続き、モンテスキュー、ヴォルテール、ルソーについて集中的に研究を進めた。ヴォルテールについては、平成30年度「実施状況報告書」に記した「ヴォルテールの「生涯」―伝記あるいは自伝の必然性／不可能性」と題された研究報告を深化させ、学術論文として刊行した。この中では、いわゆる自伝的著作群（書簡をも含む）の分析を通して、すでに先行研究において指摘されているように、「子を残すこと」を拒否あるいは拒絶したとさえうつる、哲学者の複雑な生／性について、これがどのように公衆に提示されているかを明らかにした。また、ヴォルテールについては、「18世紀フランス演劇における「オリエント」再考－モリエールから出発して」と題された研究報告も行った。その中では、彼の代表的演劇作品である『ザイール』と『狂信、あるいは預言者ムハンマド』を集中的に分析し、今日いわば隠蔽される傾向にある哲学者のオリエント観の危険な側面を明らかにした。
      ルソーについてはこれまた平成30年度「実施状況報告書」に記した、『新エロイーズ』の分析から出発し、作家の特異なセクシュアリティ観に迫る論稿がフランスの研究誌Rousseau Studiesに掲載された。
      モンテスキューについては、『ペルシア人の手紙』における「宦官」を『法の精神』における「宦官」像と比較しつつ論じた。
      最後に、「カストラート」についてもこれまでの研究をまとめた。サン＝テヴルモン、グリム、ヴォルテール、ルソーのほか、当時の歴史家をも扱った。
      この二つについては、すでに完成しているが、現段階では研究発表を行わず、最終的な研究成果としてまとめて発表する予定である。
      これらの研究はすべて、国内ではほとんど扱われることがなく、さらには政治的文化的状況から欧米では回避される傾向にある主題を扱っており、極めて独創的な成果が得られたと確信している。
