We study the effects of velocity dispersion on the formation of primordial
black holes~(PBHs) in a matter-dominated era. The velocity dispersion is
generated through the nonlinear growth of perturbations and has the potential
to impede the gravitational collapse and thereby the formation of PBHs. To make
discussions clear, we consider two distinct length scales. The larger one is
where gravitational collapse occurs which could lead to PBH formation, and the
smaller one is where the velocity dispersion develops due to nonlinear
interactions. We estimate the effect of the velocity dispersion on the PBH
formation by comparing the free-fall timescale and the timescale for a particle
to cross the collapsing region. As a demonstration, we consider a log-normal
power spectrum for the initial density perturbation with the peak value
$\sigma_0^2$ at a scale that corresponds to the larger scale. We find that the
threshold value of the density perturbation $\tilde \delta_{\rm th}$ at the
horizon entry for the PBH formation scales as $\tilde \delta_{\rm th}\propto
    \sigma_0^{2/5}$ for $\sigma_0\ll1$.

Abstract
Hawking predicted that the formation of a black hole by gravitational collapse causes quantum particle creation and the spectrum of the particles is almost thermal. This phenomenon is called Hawking radiation. Recently, it has been predicted that particle creation may drastically change from Hawking radiation to a strong double burst if the gravitational collapse suddenly stops just before the formation of the event horizon. In contrast with Hawking radiation, the burst may be so strong that it can be of observational interest even for collapsing objects with astrophysical mass scales. However, the burst phenomenon has been predicted through studies of idealized models in which a spherical hollow shell begins to collapse, but stops shrinking and eventually settles down to a static “star”. Therefore, one might guess that it could be particular to the hollow shell model. In this paper, we study particle creation due to the gravitational collapse of a spherical object whose interior is filled with matter. In this model, we obtain similar results to those in the case of the hollow shell model. This implies that the double burst is a robust property of particle creation by the sudden braking of gravitational collapse.

We study the metric backreaction of mass and angular momentum accretion on black holes. We first develop the formalism of monopole and dipole linear gravitational perturbations around Schwarzschild black holes in Eddington–Finkelstein coordinates against generic time-dependent matter. We derive the relation between the time dependence of the mass and angular momentum of the black hole and the energy–momentum tensors of accreting matter. As a concrete example, we apply our formalism to the Blandford–Znajek process around slowly rotating black holes. We find that the time dependence of the monopole and dipole perturbations can be interpreted as a slowly rotating Kerr metric with time-dependent mass and spin parameters, which are determined from the energy and angular momentum extraction rates of the Blandford–Znajek process. We also show that the Komar angular momentum and the area of the apparent horizon are decreasing and increasing in time, respectively, while they are consistent with the Blandford–Znajek argument of energy extraction in terms of black hole mechanics if we regard the time-dependent mass parameter as the energy of the black hole.

    Abstract

We modify the procedure for estimating the primordial black hole (PBH) abundance proposed in [C.-M. Yoo, T. Harada, J. Garriga, and K. Kohri, Prog. Theor. Exp. Phys. 2018, 123E01 (2018)] so that it can be applied to a broad power spectrum such as the scale-invariant flat power spectrum. In the new procedure we focus on peaks of the Laplacian of the curvature perturbation $\Delta \zeta$, and use the values of $\Delta \zeta$ and $\Delta \Delta \zeta $ at each peak to specify the profile of $\zeta$ as a function of the radial coordinate; the values of $\zeta$ and $\Delta \zeta$ are used in the previous paper. The new procedure decouples the larger-scale environmental effect from the estimate of PBH abundance. Because the redundant variance due to the environmental effect is eliminated, we obtain a narrower shape of the mass spectrum compared to the previous procedure. Furthermore, the new procedure allows us to estimate the PBH abundance for the scale-invariant flat power spectrum by introducing a window function. Although the final result depends on the choice of the window function, we show that the $k$-space tophat window minimizes the extra reduction of the mass spectrum due to the window function. That is, the $k$-space tophat window has the minimum required property in the theoretical PBH estimation. Our procedure makes it possible to calculate the PBH mass spectrum for an arbitrary power spectrum by using a plausible PBH formation criterion with the nonlinear relation taken into account.

Primordial black holes (PBHs) are an important tool in cosmology to probe the<br />
primordial spectrum of small-scale curvature perturbations that reenter the<br />
cosmological horizon during radiation domination epoch. We numerically solve<br />
the evolution of spherically symmetric highly perturbed configurations to<br />
clarify the criteria of PBHs formation using a wide class of curvature profiles<br />
characterized by five parameters. It is shown that formation or non-formation<br />
of PBHs is determined essentialy by only two master parameters.

Rapidly rotating black holes may act as natural particle accelerators to significantly high energy. It is an attractive idea to have natural particle accelerators in the space, as particle accelerators on the ground have confirmed the standard model of particle physics and are about to reveal physics beyond it. We argue that high-energy particle collisions occur near rapidly rotating black holes in rather general circumstances based on the physical investigation of this idea and discuss its implications to physics and astrophysics.

  • A trapped surface in the higher-dimensional self-similar Vaidya spacetime

Masahiro Shimano, Tomohiro Harada, Naoki Tsukamoto

        17 8 2011

    More details

We investigate a trapped surface and naked singularity in a $D$-dimensional
Vaidya spacetime with a self-similar mass function. A trapped surface is
defined as a closed spacelike $(D-2)$-surface which has negative both null
expansions. There is no trapped surface in the Minkowski spacetime. However, in
a four-dimensional self-similar Vaidya spacetime, Bengtsson and Senovilla
considered non-spherical trapped surfaces and showed that a trapped surface can
penetrate into a flat region, if and only if the mass function rises fast
    enough [I. Bengtsson and J. M. M. Senovilla, Phys. Rev. D \textbf{79}, 024027
(2009).]. We apply this result to a $D$-dimensional spacetime motivated by the
context of large extra dimensions or TeV-scale gravity. In this paper,
similarly to Bengtsson and Senovilla's study, we match four types of
$(D-2)$-surfaces and show that a trapped surface extended into the flat region
can be constructed in the $D$-dimensional Vaidya spacetime, if the increasing
rate of the mass function is greater than 0.4628. Moreover, we show that the
maximum radius of the trapped surface constructed here approaches the
Schwarzschild-Tangherlini radius in the large $D$ limit. Also, we show that
there is no naked singularity, if the spacetime has the trapped surface
    constructed here.

We have revealed the relationship between quantisation ambiguities in quantum cosmology and the absence of spacetime singularity, deduced the astrophysical observational implications of superextremal Kerr spacetimes and wormhole structures, both of which may be possible under significant quantum gravity effects, and indicated the possibility of particle collision near the horizon of near-extremal rotating black holes of which the centre-of-mass energy might reach the Planck scale.

The purpose of this research is to find methods of observational tests of wormholes. Until recently, wormholes are purely hypothetical objects introduced by the General Theory of Relativity. There was no restriction on the abundance. We have held two workshops to discuss the methods and meaning of the tests of wormholes. There have been amazing progress. Several new methods have been proposed. Then three attempts have been done to search wormholes. Until now, no candidate has been found. The limits have been imposed on the cm size wormholes and galactic scale wormholes. A preliminary limit has been imposed on the planet size wormhole. These results implies wormholes are not abundant as stars. There were several activities on the stabilities of wormholes. These studies show the wormholes are unstable and hard to survive cosmological age.
