流通が果たす社会的・経済的役割について考察する。また、日本における小売業態(百貨店、スーパー、コンビニ、専門店、SCなど)の変遷や、小売企業間競争の構造などについて、企業間関係論をベースとして理論的・実証的に分析する。この他、流通小売企業が商品を販売する際に、適時に適切なメディアを用いて適切な内容の情報を提供するためのマーケティングコミュニケーション戦略についても研究している。
